Aachen (population 285, 885), known as an “Europastadt” (City of Europe), is Germany’s westernmost major city at whose city boundaries three nations (Netherlands, Belgium and Germany) with three languages converge. It is the centre of a dynamic, cross-border knowledge region and stands for world-class university education in Natural Sciences and Engineering.

Aachen is a student city, and thanks to its students, Aachen (the French version of its name is Aix-La-Chapelle) has a lively cultural life, particularly in the student quarter of Pontviertel.
