Hradec

City profile

Hradec Králové is a city in Bohemia. It has a population of about 94,000. The city's economy is based on food-processing technology, photochemical, and electronics manufacture. The city lies roughly 100 km from Prague, making it close enough for convenient connection to the capital, but far enough away to preserve the feeling of "regional" life.

In addition to the Medical School, the city hosts another large university, giving the city a thriving student culture. Each winter, the region's highest mountains are covered with Czech and foreign skiers, whose needs are satisfied by ski centres that offer services comparable to those of centres in the Alps.
