City profile

Kleve (historically known in English as Cleves) is a city in transition. Very little of the pre-1945 city remains though Swan Castle is an enduring landmark.

With the closure of much local industry, the city is increasingly dependent on retail. The Dutch are drawn across the border by significantly lower prices. 1 out of every 2 Euros spent in Kleve originate from The Netherlands. Many Dutch citizens also own homes in the area, attracted by significantly lower real estate prices.

The Kleve Harbor Beach Bar, Cafe Country, Society Sound Factory and Central Cafe are popular music venues and popular dance spots include Night Theatre, Night Fever, or Wheel Well.
