City profile

Olsztyn, with a population of some 180,000, is located in the north-east part of Poland in the region known as the "Thousand Lakes" , a region of flakes,  forests and plains. Founded over 650 years ago, the oldest part of Olsztyn is dominated by its Gothic Castle of the Cathedral Chapter.  The castle is found in a lovely medieval city centre of spires and old buildings, a contrast to the underwhelming soviet-era suburbs [which are found in most large Polish cities] . The city offers a wide variety of bars, clubs, cafes, as well as cinemas, theatres, concerts and music festivals
