This programme takes place at the Prince Claus Conservatoire.

When you choose a classical music degree, you are taking the first step towards a professional life in music. Perhaps you will become an orchestral musician in a large symphony orchestra or member of a (semi-)professional chamber choir. Many choose a combination between playing chamber music, instrumental teaching at a music school or setting up a private teaching practice. Occasionally a student becomes a soloist on the international stage. Whichever the case, at the Prince Claus Conservatoire you will be trained to become a versatile, well rounded musician.

Programme content


The main subjects offered are: Bassoon - Cello - Clarinet - Double bass - Flute - French horn - Harp - Harpsichord - Oboe - Organ - Percussion - Piano - Saxophone - Trombone (tenor and bass) - Trumpet - Tuba (tenor and bass) - Voice - Viola: Violin.

Other related subjects include: duo and ensemble playing (chamber music), playing in a string orchestra, brass ensemble or percussion ensemble, Italian for singers, and accompaniment. next to your weekly main instrument lessons, you will also have the following subjects: choir, aural and solfege, contextual studies, creative writing (composition), practical piano, Introduction to 'Finale', professional orientation, internal and external work experience, specific and general teaching methods (pedagogy).

There is also much attention paid to the business side of the profession. next to the regular subjects, students also have the opportunity to take part in projects and master classes by renowned national and international musicians.
