The Medical University Plovdiv was established in 1945. It includes the Faculties of Medicine, Dental medicine, and Health Care, a Medical College and a St Georges University Hospital, with a capacity of 1200 beds. The university has a an annual student enrolment of 3800 Bulgarian and foreign students.
