Applications close soon for applications to most Dutch research universities

April 27, 2026

In the Netherlands, there are both research universities and universities of applied sciences. Some 10% programmes at research universities have limited places (numerus fixus) and a selection procedure for those places, with an application deadline of 15th January.

The majority of the programmes at Dutch research universities dont have a numerus fixus and have an application deadline of 1st May. There is still plenty of time to apply. For these programmes, you have a right to an education, and a place on the programme if you have the minimum entry requirements (normally six passes at Leaving Cert, including two x H5, with a minimum threshold of 350 CAO points). A handful of programmes have a slightly higher minimum requirements.as shown on this website.

Whereas the deadline for all of the programmes in Psychology, International Relations and International Business (and a few others) was 15th January, you might to choose to major in that subject in one of the Liberal Arts & Sciences that is still available. U. Groningen, for example has the following suggested majors/minors:

– Health and Life Sciences
– Smart Technologies
– Mind, Machines and Morality
– Mind and Behaviour
– Societies and Cultures in Transition
